Whats is Zebra Link-OS?

Many of Zebra's newer range of thermal printers, including the QLn220 QLn320 QLn420, support integration with their Link-OS environment. We've recieved several questions asking exactly what is Link-OS, and how it can benefit them, so in this post we'll be taking a quick look at Zebra's exciting new printer integration solution.

Zebra's Link-OS™ is their operating system that is designed for cloud-based applications that ties in with their vision of the Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. The Internet of Things refers to smart interconnected devices that communicate with each other and provide more information and control in real time. An example would be using technologies and applications to identify and track the condition of assets or transactions within or across organizations. The idea is that this information helps businesses and their customers remain informed and provide the ability to make dynamic business decisions.

Zebra have used this concept to create the Link-OS environment: an open platform that pairs an operating system for smart Zebra devices with powerful software apps, making the devices easy to integrate, manage and maintain from any location. Link-OS allows you to manage or print from any Zebra device connected to your network of zebra products, which are easy to access with their intuitive app suite. The app is available on iOS, Android and Windows phones operating system.

Zebra 105SL series - label and media loading

Here at Feed Your Zebra, we have been putting together an instructional series showing our customers how to get the most out of their machines, and in this video we look at correctly loading media into the Zebra 105SL

Each printer will have a series of short videos organized into a playlist, covering everything from the basics to those more advanced questions, like setting a static IP address on a network printer.

We felt for the first part of our 105Sl tutorial videos it was appropriate to start at the beginning. You can't print without something to print on, so we look at installing and setting up the 105sl for print media.

We hope you find our videos informative and helpful, and if you have any questions you would like to be answered in future parts, don't hesitate to get in touch and we'll be happy to help.

News: 40th Birthday of the UPC barcode

At 8.01am on June 26, 1974 shopper Clyde Dawson and Marsh supermarket cashier Sharon Buchannan made history when the first ever UPC (Unique Product Code) barcode marked item was scanned at a retail checkout. The NCR cash register in Troy, Ohio rang up 67 cents when a 10 pack of Wrigley’s Juicy Fruit chewing gum was the first item randomly picked from up from an entire shopping cart of barcoded items – that pack of gum subsequently  went on display at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History.

To celebrate this historic and in my opinion pretty cool event I’ve put together this fun infographic in conjunction with http://www.cartridge-warehouse.co.uk/ , http://www.feedyourzebra.co.uk/ and http://www.smartlabelling.co.uk/

Infograph showing short history of UPC barcode
For a tech-reliant young man such as myself, it’s hard to imagine a world without barcodes. I cannot even begin to think how ‘fun’ stock control must have been. It’s for this reason I would appreciate hearing any stories about how barcodes have affected you or your business.
